While the Kings recruited Gay as a free agent last summer when he had a choice to opt out of his contract, the two parties began contract extension talks a few months ago and are believed to have finally reached an agreement on the weekend. The former Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors star shot 48 percent from the field in 55 games with the Kings last season, the best shooting percentage of his career, while he is averaging 22.5 points over the first 10 games of this season which is a career-high rate. Gay is currently in the final year of his contract that is paying him $19.3m per season, but a solid start to the season which follows a strong start to life in Sacramento last year has ensured that the franchise wish to extend his time with them.
